Adaline Sushinsky, age 89, of Mayfield Heights, OH, passed away peacefully of health complications at Hillcrest Hospital on August 26, 2026.

She joins her beloved husband and best friend, Yakov Malev, who preceded her in death on April 18, 2013. She was the loving daughter of the late Maria Tzemekhman and Iosif Suschinsky; sister to Isabella Suschinsky (deceased); dear mother to Maria Malev; caring grandmother to Ilya Gorodetskov and Kirill Gorodetskov; a warm, cordial former mother-in-law to Alexander Gorodetskov; and a cousin to many.

Adaline was born in Minsk, Belarus, and left the city at age 4 when her daycare was evacuated on the first day of Hitler’s invasion of Belarus. Her father fought in the war, from which he never returned home; her grandparents perished in the Holocaust in spring of 1942 and one of her aunts was forcibly relocated to Germany in summer of 1942. After the war, unable to return to their Minsk home, her small family found themselves in the small Northern town of Vyborg, Russia. There, she met Yakov when both of them worked as engineers at the same manufacturing plant. The couple enjoyed fruitful and successful careers until their arrival in the US in 1996.

Once in the US, the couple worked hard to make a living in their new country; first cleaning houses, then assembling computers, until eventually retiring. They attended ESL classes and became friends with one of their teachers. Adaline enjoyed art, music, photography, and sports. She was a competetive gymnast in her youth, taking 2nd place at the town level and acting as a judge at gymnastic competitions. She loved long walks and hikes, and to her last days could be seen walking to her beloved Mayfield Heights Aldi on her walker, for groceries and people-watching. Adaline and Yakov moved to the Villa Serena apartments in the mid-2000s, and she remained there after Yakov’s passing. She was beloved by neighbors, who often remarked on how physically active she was and how warmly she greeted them.

Family and friends are invited to gather for a secular service at 11 AM on Monday, August 31, 2026, at MAHER-MELBOURNE FUNERAL HOME, 5236 MAYFIELD ROAD, LYNDHURST (EAST OF RICHMOND ROAD), followed by interment at Knollwood Cemetery in Mayfield Heights, Ohio.
