ALFRED M. EICH Jr, age 93
of Lyndhurst, Ohio, passed away peacefully September 14, 2022 at the David Simpson Hospice House, Hospice of the Western Reserve. Alfred was born on May 9, 1929, on the west side of Cleveland to the late Bess and Alfred M. Eich Sr. After graduating from West Technical School in Cleveland, Alfred earned a bachelor's degree from Heidelberg College in Tiffin, OH in 1952 and an MS in Physics from Case Institute of Technology in 1956.
Alfred held several teaching positions throughout his career. He taught Physics at C.F. Brush High School in Lyndhurst, OH from 1958-1984. Alfred was inducted into the Brush Alumni Association Wall of Achievement in recognition of the remarkable impact he had on his students. He was so proud of his students and kept in touch with many over the years. After his retirement, Alfred went on to teach Physics at Case Western Reserve University and John Carroll University.
Alfred met his beloved wife, the late Esther (nee Lammers) while studying at Heidelberg College and they were married for 68 wonderful years. Alfred is survived by his two children, Alfred Martin Eich III (Elizabeth) of Edmonton, KY, and Lisa Hubler (Mike) of South Euclid, OH. Loving Opa to granddaughters Lindsey Dempsey (Richard) and Miriam Allen (Dwight) and great grandchildren, Ava, Violet, Dyani and Silas. They will all miss his silly sense of humor, his love of sweeties, his wonderful stories, and his snuggles.
Alfred was a longtime member of the Kiwanis Club, President of the South Euclid Historical Society, and he and Esther volunteered for the Great Lakes Science Center, Severance Hall, and Playhouse Square. They were huge supporters of the Arts in Cleveland and enjoyed travelling extensively throughout Europe, Russia, South America, the Caribbean, and the United States.
A visitation will be held at Maher-Melbourne Funeral Home 5236 Mayfield Road, Lyndhurst, Ohio Wednesday, October 5th from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm. Friends and family are invited to join in celebrating the extraordinary lives of both Alfred and Esther at the Museum of American Porcelain Art 4645 Mayfield Road, South Euclid, Ohio Saturday, October 8th from 3:00 pm-5:00 pm.
