Antonina "Lena" Rinella

May 1, 1920 — October 28, 2020

Antonina "Lena" Rinella passed away on October 28, 2020 This amazing and beloved lady will be missed by her dear brother and loving nieces and nephews.

Lena was born May 1, 1920 in Cleveland Ohio to Anna (nee DiNovo) and Salvatore Rinella Sr. She was a strong, intelligent and independent woman who had many challenges in her long life. Throughout, she loved her family and had strong faith in God. Lena was a loyal parishioner of Our Lady of Peace parish for all of her 100 years.

Her 100th birthday was celebrated on May 1, 2020 with her brother Frank in attendance and distance celebrants (via the Internet and Zoom) from Sicily, Canada, California, Arizona, Texas, North Carolina and Ohio.

Despite being totally blind since her teens, Lena lived on her own into her 90's. She still regularly cooked for herself, even baking her own bread from scratch. In recent years, she enjoyed music on her Alexa, especially religious pieces and would often sing along with them. An avid Cleveland Indians fan, Lena actively followed the games on the radio, knowing all the players names, the scores, and high moments of past games. In fact, Lena was thrilled when on her 100th birthday she was able to chat with the "Voice of the Cleveland Indians", Tom Hamilton, who dropped in to the Zoom celebration.

Lena was predeceased by her parents and her brothers Salvatore and Leonard, and her niece Ann Grasnik (Ed).

She is survived by her brother Frank (age 98) and her nieces and nephews: Ann Rinella-Kelly (late John), MaryAnn Cichan (Anthony), Salvatore D. (Pat), Sally Bradley (Gary), Anthony, Theresa Wright (John), MaryJo Yonke (Ed), and many great nieces and nephews. Cousin Josephine Caruso was a special, close and attentive friend whose wonderful care greatly enriched Lena's last few years.

Grave side memorial service at Calvery Cemetery, Tuesday, Nov 3 at 11:30.. A celebration in honor of Lena will be held at a later date. Donations in her name suggested to Our Lady of Peace Church, 12601 Shaker Blvd. Cleveland Oh 44120
