D Keith Robinson

D. Keith Robinson, born August 29, 1932 in Truro, Nova Scotia to the late Travis S. Robinson and Georgietta Carter Robinson; died June 22, 2020 in Cleveland, Ohio. He is remembered by family and friends as a kind, loving, gentle, generous man, with a wonderful sense of humor and a positive outlook, taking pleasure in the beauty of every day.
Keith was the beloved husband for 55 years of Margaret Bainbridge Robinson; father of Gregory Kenneth Robinson (Shirl Wright) of New York City and Claire Carter Robinson May (James) of Cleveland Heights, Ohio; and "Papa" to grandsons Jonah William May and Mills Keith May. He was the loving brother of Paul Meech Robinson (Elaine) of Dartmouth, Nova Scotia, as well as cousin, uncle, and great-uncle to many loved ones in Canada and the USA.
Emeritus Professor of Physics at Case Western Reserve University, Keith studied at Dalhousie University in Halifax, N.S., for his B.Sc. and M.Sc. in physics; and at Cambridge University and Oxford University in the U.K., receiving his D. Phil. in physics from Oxford in 1960. Keith pursued research at Brookhaven National Laboratory before joining the physics faculty in 1966 at Western Reserve University, which soon thereafter federated with the Case Institute of Technology to become Case Western Reserve University, where he enjoyed a 36-year academic career. Keith loved teaching introductory physics labs and interacting with students. He was a faculty leader and advocate, serving terms as Faculty Senate Chair and as University Marshal.
Keith was an avid gardener, cook, photographer, tinkerer, and lover of music and culture. Margi and Keith enjoyed many years of travel together, particularly in Canada and Europe, and summers at their cottage on Brule Shore in Nova Scotia. After his retirement, Keith found great joy in caring for his young grandsons. Keith remained a proud Canadian all of his life, becoming a dual U.S. citizen in 2007.
A celebration of his life will be held at a later date. Donations in Keith's memory may be made to Dobama Theatre, Ohio Light Opera, Hospice of the Western Reserve, or the Greater Cleveland Food Bank.
