Obituary for John Hungerford, Died, June 11, 2021
John Hungerford was born in Cleveland, Ohio on September 25,1931. He died
peacefully with his wife Patricia and his daughter Jill by his side, on June 11,
2021. John and his wife Patricia lived together in the home they built in
Lyndhurst, Ohio for nearly 50 years. They started dating in the spring of 1949 and
lived together until his passing. John is survived by his wife Patricia (West), two
daughters, Jill Hungerford and Jan West, and his grandchildren, Whitney
Ockenden, Gabriel Volpe, Luke and Colleen Ockenden and his great-grand
children, Zachary, Tyler and Isabelle, Richard (Rick) West, his brother in law,
Hope Hungerford, (brother Clark Hungerford's wife) and three nieces, Melinda,
Nancy and Beth.
John graduated from Brush High School in 1949 and Cornell University in 1954
with a Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering. He was a Registered
Professional Engineer and an Eagle Scout. He served two years in the Army as a
Lieutenant during the Korean War period. He and two partners owned and
operated manufacturing companies in Ohio, Minnesota and Indiana. He designed
and built equipment that permitted the companies to sell product for years to
Caterpillar Tractor, Cummins Engine (supplier of the year one year) and others at
very competitive prices. He enjoyed gardening, Bridge, reading, opera, classical
music, golf, tennis, and traveling: in early years tenting with Jan and Jill and later
in life, traveling the world and cruising ports, mostly north of the Equator with
Patty. John loved most of all, his wonderfully capable and loving wife, Patty their
daughters, Jan and Jill and grand children, and great-grandchildren. He taught us
much. He will be deeply missed, loved and forever remembered.
There will be a memorial celebration on Saturday, July 17.2021, at
1776 South Green Road. Open house: 4:00 - 8:00 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial donations be made to the
Alzheimer Association.
