It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Marilyn Schade Parrish at the age of 93. She is survived by her five children, Susanne Parrish (Gregory) Hall, Kenneth Parrish, Christopher Parrish, Nancy (John) Siebert and Samuel Parrish as well as six grandchildren and four great grandchildren.
Marilyn was born in East Orange, New Jersey to Mildred Buckley Schade and George Schade in 1928. She graduated from Mount Holyoke College with a degree in Sociology and Economics in 1949. After college, she married Robert Parrish and lived in Elkhart, Indiana for over 25 years where she worked as a substitute teacher and raised their children. She then moved back to New Jersey, settling in Newton, and worked for 7 years as a Planner for Prudential Insurance in Newark and finished raising her children. As she became an empty nester, she returned to the Midwest settling in Cleveland Heights, Ohio to enjoy her grandchildren.
She was an amazing cook, preparing many of her mother's recipes for family gatherings and created beautiful Christmas celebrations. She was a talented seamstress and crafter, making doll clothes, stuffed animals, designer dresses and home decor. She was a lover and supporter of the arts, attending performances of the Cleveland Ballet, Cleveland Opera and Cleveland Orchestra for years. Marilyn was always curious and accepting of the world, traveling to Europe, Australia, Scandinavia, and Egypt. Above all, she had a big heart and spread love to everyone she encountered, especially her extended family.
In lieu of flowers please donate to the Alzheimer's Association or The Cleveland Orchestra.
A Private Memorial Service will be held in Cleveland, OH on May 8th.
