Maureen Hollander

November 25, 1947 — January 26, 2023

Cleveland Hts, Ohio

MAUREEN HOLLANDER, age 75

Maureen graduated from St John's College in Maryland in the early 70s, with a Liberal Arts degree and later from Cleveland State University with a degree in Mechanical Engineering.

Out of college, for fun, and due to her natural mechanical curiosity, she would rebuild Volkswagen air-cooled engines. When one of her brothers broke down in Ohio with a seized Volkswagen Squareback, she assisted him in what parts to purchase at a local auto parts store to get him back on the road.

She lived in Cleveland most of her adult life where she worked as an engineer, specializing in studying and analyzing engine bearing failures at times.  She was also employed at NASA working with wind energy.

She especially enjoyed cycling when she was in her 40s and 50s, which rapidly became her passion. She rode in many centuries (100-mile rides) and was considered one the most knowledgeable and strongest riders in her group of riding friends.

She enjoyed conversing on a wide variety of subjects.  An accomplished classical pianist and cellist, Maureen was also the leader in the Great Books of Cleveland group. She was also an avid dog owner.  Despite dealing with Multiple Sclerosis in her later years, she maintained a remarkably positive attitude toward life.  She died peacefully in her Cleveland Heights home on January 26, 2023. She is survived by her brothers Jimmy and Tommy and sisters Susan and Nancy.
