In loving memory of Mildred (Nancy) Ann Sindelar, née Reifke. Pre-deceased by her husband Dr Paul J Sindelar, she is remembered as a devoted mother and mother-in-law to Ann Sindelar (Steve Kohn), Eileen Ivan (Tom), Mark Sindelar (Ellen), Mary Papathanassiou (John), Ellen Moulier (Philippe), John Sindelar (Shawn), Molly Markey (Randy), and James Sindelar (Tiffany Hall Nicol) and cherished grandmother to Ryan Kohn, Meredith and Meghan Ivan, Eliza and Carolyn Sindelar, Elena and Nicole Papathanassiou, Henri and Alice Moulier, Lillian, Thayer, Nolan Sindelar and Oliver Weil, Max and Isabel Markey, and Cameron Sindelar. Nancy was also a treasured sister to Joan Quigley (Tom – deceased) and Rosemary Low (Jim – both deceased) and a loving aunt to all Quigley and Low children, as well as a kind sister-in-law to Kathy Bynane and her family.
Born and raised in Cleveland, Nancy attended Beaumont School for Girls then went to Mercy College in Detroit, MI where she received a Bachelor of Science in Nursing. After graduation, she returned to Cleveland and worked at Marymount and later at St. Luke's Hospitals. After 23 years busily raising her children, she went back to work part-time and finished her nursing career at University Hospital. Throughout the years, Nancy was also regularly involved in the Cleveland and Ohio State Women's Medical Auxiliaries and served as president of the Cleveland chapter from 1991 until 1995.
The arts in Cleveland remained an important part of her life. As a child she attended art/music appreciation classes at the Cleveland Museum of Art and as a young girl her parents, Mildred and Dr. John T. Reifke, DDS (both deceased), introduced her to theatre at Cain Park and the Cleveland Playhouse. Ever receptive to beauty and nature, Nancy enjoyed spending time at the Cleveland Museum of Art, the Western Reserve Historical Society, and the Cleveland Botanical Garden. Severance Hall was also a favorite where she attended Friday morning Cleveland Orchestra concerts for over 25 years.
Most importantly, Nancy loved sharing the company of family while celebrating special occasions or just spending an afternoon together. Her warmth, hospitality and exceptional baking are memories that we all remember fondly. The perfect travel partner, she was always ready for a new adventure. Her open-mindedness toward culture and learning near and far are prized legacies that have been unmistakably passed on to her offspring.
Nancy lived her final years happily at Judson Park, content in discovering a new community and thankful for the expert staff - most notably aids and hospice nurses who took great care in keeping her comfortable. She died as she lived, quietly and peacefully, surrounded by loving family.
