Patricia West Hungerford

Patricia Hungerford was born in Cleveland, Ohio on September 8, 1931. She died peacefully with her daughters Jill and Jan by her side on December 30, 2021. Patricia was preceded in death by her husband John. They lived together in the home they built in Lyndhurst, Ohio for nearly 50 years. They started dating in the spring of 1949 and lived together until his passing on June 11, 2021. Patricia is survived by daughters, Jill Hungerford and Jan West, her grandchildren Whitney Ockenden, Gabriel Volpe, Luke and Colleen Ockenden, her great grandchildren Zachary, Tyler and Isabelle, her brother Richard "Rick" West, sister in-law Hope Hungerford (brother-in-law Clark Hungerford's wife) and three nieces, Melinda, Nancy and Beth.

Patty graduated from Brush High School in 1949 and Kent University in 1954 with a degree in Education. She taught school on the Texas border while John served in the Army. In later years, Patty taught a combined class of first and second graders at Holy Rosary School in Little Italy, Ohio. She was an extraordinary teacher. All of her first and second grade students could cheerfully recite the presidents both forwards and backwards. She volunteered in her church and community for most of her life.

She enjoyed bringing people together with beautiful meals and gatherings, gardening, Bridge, reading, the arts and traveling; in early years tenting with and Jan and Jill and later in life traveling the world and cruising ports, mostly north of the Equator with John. Most of all, Patty loved her wonderfully capable and loving husband, John, their daughters, Jan and Jill, and grandchildren and great grandchildren. She taught us much about love, life and the appreciation of beauty. She will be deeply missed, loved and forever remembered.

There will be a private memorial celebration. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial donations be made to the Alzheimer Association.
