Sammy Valente, age 91, was born on July 29, 1928 in Cleveland, Ohio. Sam died May 1, 2020.

He was the son of George and Rose (Bennardo) Valente, who immigrated from Italy through Ellis Island. He graduated from John Hay High School where he ran track. Sam had several careers, in the construction industry (he once spent an entire summer digging by hand, to form a basement under his family home,) and as a licensed barber for many years.

He was a lifelong bachelor and spent many years of his adult life caring for his parents and family members. His interests included Music; he played Bass, Sax, and Flute with several bands in the 50's and 60's. He enjoyed painting, and the challenge of a large puzzle and completed and framed many spiritual and scenic pictures. He was skilled at solving crossword and Sudoku puzzles.

Sam lived in Cleveland for 84 years before moving to assisted living in Lorain County. He was a sweet man and favorite of the nurses and staff where he resided since 2013. He loved his Catholic faith and was active in his home churches; Our Lady of Mt. Carmel and Our Lady of Peace. He enjoyed watching EWTN and religious shows. He also enjoyed following the stock market and discussing world events.

Sam was a charming friend and beloved uncle to many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his brothers: Joe, Carmen, and George, and sisters: Clara and Lucy.

A private interment was held, and a Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. Sign up for service updates in service tab.
