Waltraud Hutter

Waltraud "Trudy" Hutter, 98, of Mentor, went home to be with the Lord on Friday February 23rd, 2024.

She was born in Brasov, Romania on April 8, 1925, the daughter of the late Josef Haner and the late Anna Sikore Haner and a sister to five brothers and two sisters.  She moved to the US in 1955 together with husband Rudolf, where they settled down in the Buckeye/Shaker Square area of Cleveland to raise their family.. They eventually moved to Mentor in 1996.

Trudy survived many harrowing experiences in Europe during and after World War II, so the challenges of being an immigrant in a new country and learning a new language were relatively easy in comparison.  She was someone who always approached life with a positive attitude, a smile and a sense of humor.   Her work ethic and commitment to her family were evident to all who knew her and she was always there with a helping hand to take care of family & friends when they needed help.  Trudy was a longstanding member of the EOUV Club in Novelty, Ohio, a Slovenian and Austrian social and mutual aid club established to support immigrants in the Cleveland area and to support and maintain cultural traditions.  She had a long list of friends from the club and from her Mentor neighborhood, who she kept in close contact with over the years.

Her greatest joy in life was enjoying the company of her family, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She lovingly hosted family brunch in her home every Sunday for over 25 years, where many laughs were enjoyed together with an endless supply of food to make sure no one left the table hungry.  Her baking skills were legendary and closely held, until she started to share her secrets just recently.  Although she was 98 years old, she was proud to proclaim to anyone who would listen that she still "didn't have a single gray hair", which no one disputed, at least not in her presence.   Trudy, or Oma as everyone called her, will be greatly missed by her loving family and many friends.

Trudy was predeceased by her husband Rudolph Hutter, who passed away in 1997.  Trudy is survived by her 2 children, Marian Adamo (Tom), Ron Hutter (Kaye), and her grandchildren Adam Adamo (Stephanie), Lexi Adamo Feeney (Michael), Christian Adamo (Annie), Rachel Hutter Laubert (Jeff), and Nicole Hutter, and by her great grandchildren Jack, Johnny and Joshua Adamo and Lucy Feeney.

We would like to thank all the doctors, nurses and medical staff who provided Trudy with exceptional care throughout the years.
